What's the difference between permanent and respite residency?

CH staff

Permanent residency

A permanent residency is a long-term stay in a care home. Residents tend to be elderly and unable to live independently, or would prefer the social environment a care home can offer. Residents will receive daily support with washing, dressing and eating, as well as engaging activities in a safe and comfortable environment.

Respite residency

Respite care is a short-term stay in a care home, typically lasting from one week to a few months. It can provide temporary relief for caregivers or allows individuals to recover after a hospital stay. Respite care offers the same level of support as permanent residency. It can also be a great way to try out a care home before becoming a permanent resident.
