Barchester Healthcare Derham House Care Home

I deliver regular music workshops here and the staff and residents are incredible. Staff are attentive to the resident's needs, and the environment is one of warmth, love, and laughter.

We attend Derham House on a monthly basis, to conduct therapeutic music sessions. All of our instructors have experienced the wonderfully welcoming atmosphere that the staff at Derham House provide. From the moment you arrive, it is clear that this is a supportive environment, that conducts a person centred approach, for every resident - and visitor. Our sessions rely on the knowledge that staff have, of those that they support - and Derham House is an exceptional example, of how paramount this is. Every staff member engages with the residents during the sessions, aids their expression and encourages their confidence. We highly recommend the services, support and care they provide.

My father moved to Derham House in Upminster following a stroke last year. At a time when he was very vulnerable and needed the correct level of care. From the very beginning, all the staff and managers gave me reassurance and comfort. He was cared for with real dignity, kindness and respect. He genuinely loved his time there and regularly told me he felt safe and well looked after. Despite the dramatic changes to his health, I knew he was happy where he was. I was a regular visitor so I can vouch for how good a job all the staff do. The staff got to know him and they always treated him with warmth and patience. I truly felt he was in a place where people cared. He was a very quite man but I could see how the staff worked with him and made him feel comfortable and happy. The home has lovely outdoor spaces and great activities that the staff make a real effort to involve everyone. Even when his mobility were limited, my dad would still be out listening to the live singers having a good time. As his health declined, the palliative care he received was outstanding. The staff were attentive, gentle, and constantly went the extra mile to ensure he was comfortable. They also supported us as a family, especially in the final days, with great sensitivity and thoughtfulness during a very difficult time. I’ll always be grateful to everyone at Derham House for the way they looked after my dad, and the way they supported me too.

This was my second time entertaining the staff and residents of this lovely home. Both times have been thoroughly enjoyable for us all- and this was clearly facilitated by the rapport shared between the carers and residents. With this being my full time job, I can confidently say that such a warm environment isn’t commonplace in all care homes. But this one certainly stands out up there with some of the best. Very clean, and very accommodating for any guests/ visitors. I look forward to coming back here again for our next fun-filled afternoon!

I visit Derham Care Home on a monthly basis with my Therapy Dog Watson. We have been visiting for about 18 months. We always receive a warm welcome by all of the staff. We are escorted around the premises by the Activities Team representatives and visit the Residents' lounges and individual bedrooms of those Residents wishing to see us. The Home always appears clean and tidy and the staff are interactive, helpful and kind. There are lots of planned activities and the Residents seem to be very content within their surroundings. My visits have changed my opinions of Care Homes and I would feel at ease placing a relative with Derham Care Home in Upminster.
