Had my Dad move into the Dementia unit from January this year until his death at the end of April. There are some truly lovely people working there, all with the patience of saints . Thank you all so much for everything you did for him. Ben x

I struck gold when I found this care home. I had personal and health problems of my own aside from worrying about my dad and didn't visit as much as I would have liked but I never once felt judged and i felt assured that dad was being looked after and treated so kindly by the lovely caring staff. On dads final day I was scared and didn't know what to expect but as I walked into his room there was a calm ambience and a member of staff sat holding his hand. I knew right then that everything was going to be alright. There were 3 members of staff that I met for the first time that last night and they were all there for me and I don't know how I would have got through it without them. Especially Laura (I think her name was) who looked after me. It's just such a homely lovely environment. The staff are so professional and also have a sense of humour and always gave off the feeling that they loved working there and always had a smile for you. Nothing was too much trouble. Brilliant place.

For any of us, moving an elderly parent into residential care is super-stressful. This, for me is compounded by the fact I have no siblings and do not live in Yorkshire. I did a lot of research before visiting Oakwood and my own professional background in Adult Social Care was a significant advantage. I am not swayed by fancy wall paper, posh uniforms and landscaped gardens. Though Oakwood is very comfortable in terms of decor that was never my priority. I wanted a home for mum where the staff were on permanent contracts, not agency or zero hours; where they were all able to access personal development; where the care hours were above the minimum required by CQC; Where care planning was thorough and clearly recorded. Most of all, I wanted a home where there was clear leadership, a Residential manager who not only motivated the staff but inspired them and was 100% focused on individual person-centred care. I have found that at Oakwood. Dawn is passionate about Oakwood being the residents home; she has a stable team with a deal of maturity and experience and I know mum could not be in safer or more nurturing hands. Without exception, the staff go beyond expectations. Yes, the monthly bill makes my eyes water... but knowing mum is now safe, cared for, treated as a person and not a task, it is worth every penny. (The food is also wonderful, home-cooked and plentiful)
