My Mum was a resident at Northbourne Court care home for just under five years. The staff were so wonderful and kind,. They looked after my Mum with excellent care, treating her with respect. Most of the carers called her Grandma, and looked after her as if she really was their Grandma. In her final days before my Mum passed away. I cannot praise the staff, and management enough for the care and dedication they showed towards my Mum in the End of Life care they gave her, The carers were also so supportive towards myself and my Sister while we sat by our Mum's bedside. They looked after us offering us refreshments and food, as well as the wonderful care they gave our precious Mum.. Members of staff even sat with us, during this difficult period. Thank you Northbourne Court carers and staff for showing our Mum so much love and dedication and wonderful care, If you are celebrating a special occasion. I highly recommend holding it in the Hospitality Suit of Northbourne Court. You don't have to have any connection to the care home. The buffet choices and standard of food is excellent, and very good value, Bucks fizz or orange juice was served to guests on their arrival. . The staff completely host the event by checking if the guests want more food or drinks. We held my Mum's wake at Northbourne Court, and they did her proud. A very sad occasion was turned into a lovely event. Jean Drew.

This home is excellent being modern, light and airy. The staff are caring and friendly and looked after my 99 year old mother-in-law with patience and compassion until she finally passed away in her sleep. My wife and find it difficult to criticise any aspect of this care home. From our experience we can thoroughly recommend it.

What a lovely place! It's like a hotel. Lits of outdoor space. Private space. Well worth a look at for your relatives. Very impressive.

DO NOT SEND YOUR ELDERLY RELATIVES HERE. This place is plain horrid. They barely care for people. They completely fail at keeping people safe. The way they get rid of anyone that is not completely healthy is totally disgusting. This place should not even be called a care home. They certainly do not look after anyone. They do not understand dementia at all. My nan has dementia. Even back in the 90s we could see that she didn't comprehend things very well. It turns out that she had a mini stroke in the past but she never told us as she didn't want us to worry. With all things considered she has done very well and has only recently reached the stage where she could no longer cope in her own home. At the moment my nan is currently in the fluctuating stage of dementia (this is where peoples confusion comes and goes every few days). Anyone who has a family member with dementia knows what it is like. Knowing just how someone used to be and how they have changed, and no longer really know what is going on around them, being in a state of total confusion. Anyway, as for the care home, it started of well. It is a very clean and bright place. The staff all seemed to be caring people. But after just over a month they are now refusing to have my nan, and they are trying to claim that my nan has impossible needs that they could not possibly be able to cope with. THE LYING IDIOTS. They are just trying to cover up their own failing. They perfectly well knew that my nan's dementia was fluctuating, and as well as this she has bad arthritis. On a good day people would often not realise she has dementia, but on a bad day she doesn't know where she is, and what is going on around her. On these days she can't sit still and keeps getting up and walking about, and then she quickly gets tired and has to sit down, then immediately forgets this and tries to stand up again. By the evening she is very wobbly. Anyone who is used to dementia knows that this is typical behaviour. At no point is this exceptional behaviour like the care home is claiming. And simply telling my nan not to get up does not change anything and is certainly NOT adequate care. They should be used to this sort of thing. The staff in this care home seem friendly but in practise they totally fail to be of any use. They were told that nan wasn't drinking enough water and she had to be reminded regularly. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. This led to my nan getting a urine infection which made her even more wobbly. And despite the fact that they are a care home which should be used to looking after people with dementia they put in so little effort that my nan fell over very badly, and she hit her head very hard. AND THIS WAS PERFECTLY WELL PREVENTABLE IF THE STAFF HAD BEEN DOING THEIR JOB PROPERLY. THEY PERFECTLY WELL KNEW WHAT CARE SHE NEEDED. My nan was just settling into her new care home. SHE IS NOW BACK IN HOSPITAL. People with dementia need to be somewhere where they are settled and have structure. It is disgusting that they are now refusing to have her back. Keeping on moving a person with dementia makes their dementia worse. Even though there were problems with the home, there were many good things about it. Nan was very settled and had improved and was doing very well on her good days. Now that she is back in hospital she is more confused than I have ever seen her. She thinks the year is 1970. She talks about her house and cats of that time as if its the present day. She doesn't even realise that she is in hospital. We still don't know if this is from hitting her head, the urine infection or from being moved to a new location yet again. Its probably a combination of all three. Yet if they had been looking after my nan none of this would have happened. All they are doing now denying all responsibility. COMPLETELY DISGUSTING. Northbourne Court is a place that half heartedly cares for people, and throws them out when they are most at need, which is the very time where people dementia need to be settled in their familiar environment.
